Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions About Recovery Compass
Q: Is Recovery Compass a replacement for therapy, counseling, or medical treatment?
A: No. Recovery Compass is a non-clinical peer support tool designed to complement—not replace—professional treatment and care. If you require therapy, counseling, psychiatric services, or medical treatment, please seek assistance from appropriately licensed healthcare professionals. Our recovery coaches are peers with lived recovery experience, not licensed clinical professionals.
Q: Who can see my check-ins, reflections, and personal data?
A: Your personal data is kept strictly confidential. Only you and your assigned recovery coach have access to your check-ins, reflections, and progress data. Your information is not shared with other users, employers, family members, or third parties except as required by law or as described in our Privacy Policy.
Q: Are recovery coaches licensed therapists or counselors?
A: No. Our recovery coaches are certified peer support specialists with personal lived experience in recovery. They are not licensed therapists, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, or medical professionals. They provide support, encouragement, accountability, and shared experience—not clinical treatment, diagnosis, or professional healthcare services.
Q: Is there a cost to use Recovery Compass?
A: Recovery Compass is provided as a component of GLRS recovery coaching services. For information about program enrollment, service packages, and associated costs, please contact us at info@glrecoveryservices.com or call (510) 770-6169 to schedule a consultation.
Q: Does Recovery Compass work without an internet connection?
A: Certain features require an active internet connection, including check-in submission, coach messaging, and meeting searches. Your sobriety counter, previously loaded content, and basic navigation features remain functional offline. Data entered offline will sync when connectivity is restored.
Data Privacy and Security Questions
Q: Is my data secure?
A: Yes. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure authentication protocols, and access controls. For comprehensive details about our data protection practices, please review our Privacy Policy.
Q: Is GLRS a HIPAA-covered entity?
A: No. GLRS is not a HIPAA-covered entity because we are not a healthcare provider, health plan, or healthcare clearinghouse as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. However, we are committed to protecting your personal information and implement robust security measures to safeguard your data.
Q: Can I delete individual check-ins or journal entries?
A: Certain entries may be edited or deleted through the Application interface. For complete data deletion, you may utilize the account deletion feature or contact our support team. Please note that once data is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
Q: Who owns my personal data?
A: You retain ownership of your personal data. You have the right to export your data at any time, request corrections to inaccurate information, and request deletion of your account and associated data.
Meeting Finder Questions
Q: Why can't I find meetings in my specific area?
A: Our meeting data is aggregated from third-party sources and may not include complete coverage for all geographic areas. We recommend:
Expanding your search radius in the meeting filter settings
Searching for online meetings, which are accessible from any location
Visiting fellowship websites directly: aa.org, na.org, smartrecovery.org, recoverydharma.org
Contacting your local intergroup or central office for comprehensive meeting lists
Q: I found incorrect meeting information. How can I report it?
A: Meeting data is sourced from third-party organizations and may occasionally contain inaccuracies. We recommend:
Contacting the relevant local intergroup or fellowship directly to report the correction
Always arriving early to meetings to verify details before the scheduled start time
Emailing support@glrecoveryservices.com to report the discrepancy so we can investigate
Q: Is GLRS affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, or other recovery fellowships?
A: No. Guiding Light Recovery Services is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or a representative of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Recovery Dharma, SMART Recovery, or any other recovery fellowship or mutual aid organization. We aggregate publicly available meeting information as a convenience to help you find support resources.
Recovery Coach Questions
Q: How frequently should I expect to hear from my recovery coach?
A: Communication frequency varies based on your agreed-upon schedule and service package. Most participants have regular check-ins with their coach. If you feel you need more frequent communication, please discuss this directly with your coach or contact our team.
Q: What should I do if I disagree with something my coach suggests?
A: Your recovery coach provides suggestions, perspectives, and support based on their lived experience—not professional clinical advice. You are always in full control of your own recovery decisions. If you have concerns about your coaching relationship or the guidance you are receiving, please contact us at info@glrecoveryservices.com.
